Box Generator

Design a finger-joint (box-joint) box and export the flat panels as a DXF, SVG, or G-code for laser cutting and CNC — entirely in your browser.

Dimensions

Outside = the finished outer size. Inside = the inner cavity (panels are added outside it).

Set the kerf to your laser/cutter for a snug press fit.

Tip: measure your real material thickness with calipers — it's rarely the nominal value.

How it helps

Finger-joint (box-joint) panels that press together — no glue required.
Set outside width, depth, height, material thickness, finger width, and kerf.
Closed box or open-top tray, with optional dividers and kerf compensation for a snug fit.
Export a laser/CNC-ready DXF, SVG, or G-code — or copy a share link. Each output uses 1 credit; processing is browser-local and nothing is uploaded.

Best practices

  • - Measure your real material thickness with calipers — it is rarely exactly the nominal value.
  • - Cut a small test joint first to dial in the kerf before cutting the whole box.
  • - Keep the finger width around 2–3× the material thickness for strong joints.
  • - Lay out the panels on your sheet and check they fit before sending the job.

Limitations

  • - It makes finger-joint boxes with optional egg-crate dividers — no lids with lips, hinges, or T-slot/bolt joints yet.
  • - Tiny corner reliefs are left so the panels always assemble; this is normal for laser boxes.
  • - Material thickness is treated as exact; verify your stock and kerf for a perfect fit.

FAQ

Are these inside or outside dimensions?

Outside dimensions. The width, depth, and height are the finished outer size of the assembled box.

What is kerf and why does it matter?

Kerf is the width of material your laser or bit removes. The generator grows each panel by half the kerf on every side so the fingers press together snugly instead of falling out.

Do I need glue?

Finger joints press-fit and are usually strong without glue, but a little wood glue makes them permanent and stronger.

Can I make an open box or tray?

Yes. Turn on 'Open top' to omit the lid and get a five-panel tray.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The box is generated entirely in your browser. Sign-in is required only when you download or copy an output, which uses 1 credit.
