What is the module?
Module is the size of each tooth: pitch diameter divided by the number of teeth. Two gears mesh when they have the same module and pressure angle. (In imperial, this maps to diametral pitch.)
Will my gears mesh?
Yes, as long as both gears use the same module and pressure angle. The centre distance between them is (teeth₁ + teeth₂) × module ÷ 2.
How many teeth should I use?
At a 20° pressure angle, use about 17 teeth or more to avoid undercutting. Fewer teeth still work for many laser/3D-print projects but the profile is approximate.
What can I cut it on?
Export DXF for laser cutters, CNC routers, and plasma, or SVG for vector tools. The DXF imports into LightBurn, Fusion, Inkscape, and most CAD/CAM software.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The gear is generated entirely in your browser and the tool is free with no sign-in.
